Now that you have completed your steps. We invite you to come in to our salon and hair clinic to see, touch and try on the units that we offer to our veterans. A scheduled appointment is required and can be booked online.
You must first be enrolled as a patient of the VA Medical Center in your area.
Your primary care physician will need to see you based on the Alopecia Hair Loss condition that you have or that was diagnosed in your medical records.
Your doctor will want to determine that no additional medical conditions are the cause of your hair loss before providing a request for a prosthetic unit - (the medical term for a required medical hair loss - custom wig)
If you have already been diagnosed with the term - "Alopecia" in your medical records. During your appointment you may request from your doctor to submit a request to the prosthetics department to obtain a custom wig unit.
The assignment of a company for you to be serviced may be randomly selected. It is apart of the process to visit the company assigned to you to ensure the veteran is satisfied with the service and quality of the equipment provided.
If you are not satisfied, you can advise the VA that you would like to utilize another company of your choice and provide a name to them based on the research you have done.
Once you receive the Vendor Request for a custom wig. You will need to set up an appointment with that assigned vendor to design & order your custom unit.
Your vendor will submit your order to the Department of Veterans Affairs to process your claim on your behalf for your medical wig.
The Department of Veterans Affairs Benefits Program will only allow 1-2 units per year to a veteran in need.
